Travel Posters

Picture

Travel Posters became a popular form of advertisement in the "Golden Age of Travel" that occurred right before the outbreak of World War II and then picked back up after the war with air travel. Sparked by the 20th century inventions of railroads, ocean liners, and air travel, the public was able to travel in luxury like never before. This was an era of romanticism with travel.

The poster's themselves range in style from art nouveau, art deco to mid century modern. The posters were commissioned by the rail lines and air lines themselves to encourage a sense of adventure and exploration.  They were meant as advertisements for these destinations and to entice the public to book trips with travel agents. The air lines took it a step further and advertised very far away destinations to emphasize that these places were now attainable due to air travel.

REQUIREMENTS
  1. You are to create a travel poster of your choice using the style of your choice. (digital painting, vector illustration, etc)
  2. It can be a destination of your choice. It can be a real place like a city or country or a fictional place (that already exists! Think Hogwarts, Gotham, Star Wars, etc)
  3. It must include the name of the location in text with styles applied to it! (drop shadows, warping etc) and a travel slogan.
  4. Must have a foreground, middle-ground and a background to create a sense of space and depth.
  5. Must include iconic imagery associated with that place. (Empire State Building and Statue of Liberty, NY etc.)
  6. There must be good evidence of work ethic and EFFORT!

Regardless of your approach you'll all start here...

  • Make a collage in photoshop of your destination.
  • It must have a FOCAL POINT in the foreground.
  • It must have a middle ground.
  • It must have a background
  • KEEP THE TEXT ON A SEPARATE LAYER! DON'T TRY TO PAINT TEXT.
  • Render the travel poster in the style of your choice
