Digital Fashion Drawing

For this assignment, you are to create a a design of your choice but instead of coloring it/ finishing it traditionally with colored pencils or markers, I will teach you how to do it on the computer using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. After this assignment, you will have the choice of either creating your designs the traditional way with pencils/paper/markers or completing them digitally for the rest of the assignments this year.

Assignment # 1:
Practice Digital Line Drawing

Pick a photo of a fashion model from the internet. You will practice using the pencil tool in Adobe Illustrator to trace your chosen model, to create a line drawing.

Copy and paste that image into a new file in Adobe Illustrator, 8.5 x 11 inches!

Reference the beginning steps of the tutorial on how to use the pencil tool in Adobe Illustrator.

You will practice drawing/ tracing the contour lines of their face and manipulate the strokes that you create. Use the pencil tool and a  bright stroke color (no fill) so that you can see your work.

This is preparation for you drawing your own croquis designs that I will scan in for you to trace for Assignment #2.

When done, place it in your portfolio for a grade! Reference the tutorial to the left on how to do this.

Assignment # 2: Digital Design

You are to create one dress design of your choice on paper with pencil. When complete, we will scan the drawing into the computer and using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop we will render it digitally.

It must include the following:
  1. The design must be draw in pencil first and must be ORIGINAL.
  2. There must be evidence of varying stroke styles and weights. (Thin lines, thick lines, tapered lines etc.)
  3. The design must be fully colored in using Adobe Photoshop.
  4. The final design must be placed in a presentation board style with a background, a title for the design, call outs and swatches.
