Drawing a Fashion Figure

Fashion Figures or Croquis are the base drawing that a fashion designer uses to draw their clothing designs on top of. Each designer has their own style of fashion figure. Some like one particular pose, some like to elongate the figure, some add lots of details to the face and hair, while some keep it very simple. You will discover what figure style works for you.

Steps to Drawing a Fashion Figure: DRAW LIGHTLY!!!!
Fashion Figures are mostly legs. They are modeled after runway models so they are tall, thin and lanky (usually)
  1. Using a ruler, measure out a 10 inch line down the center of your paper.
  2. Mark each inch (1-10") with a line.
  3. Label each line staring at the top 1-11.
  4. Draw an oval for the head between line # 1 and line #2
  5. Halfway between lines 2 and 3 are where the shoulders are.
  6. Halfway between lines 3 and 4 is the waist.
  7. The bottom of line 5 is where the torso ends and the legs begin.
  8. Between lines 7 and 8 are the knees.
  9. Just past line 10 are the ankles.
  10. Now that you have her all blocked out, go back and add arms.
  11. Elbows hit at the waist.
  12. The end of the hands falls between line 5 and 6.
  13. Round her out! She should start off pretty blocky looking. This is why we drew lightly.
  14. This is how you will start off your fashion drawings. With practice, you will get the hang of it.
